Poet, writer, and playwright Denis Johnson was born in Munich, Germany, where his father worked for the State Department. He grew up in the Philippines, Japan, and Washington DC, and earned an MFA from the University of Iowa's Writers' Workshop. At one time addicted to drugs and alcohol, Johnson’s literary output increased significantly after he became sober. Peter Johnson was born and reared in Buffalo, NY. He teaches creative writing and children's literature at Providence College and is editor of The Prose Poem: His books include: Pretty Happy!, a book of prose poems (White Pine Press, , 10 Village Square, Fredonia.

Peter Johnson has long been acclaimed by such poets as Russell Edson and Charles Simic as one of the masters of the prose poem. In his new book, Old Man Howling at the Moon, he continues his exploration of the genre, exhibiting his usual comic touch.

Johnson calls these new poems “complaints” and traces his Read More. Johnson’s early translations and his Latin verse reflect two poetic modes that he would pursue for the rest of his life. Other poems extant from his earlier years show his abilities in the kind of occasional or impromptu verses that appear in large numbers in his later writings.
